One of the Christmas presents I got this year was an instructional program on clawhammer banjo. I'm a big fan of Dwight Diller's banjo stylings so I was very happy when I saw his bearded face staring up at me from the cover.

His bearded face and his hat.

You see, on the cover of "Beginning Clawhammer" by Dwight Diller, Dwight Diller is wearing a hat. It's one of those trucker hats, and the hat reads "Cluck Cluck Chicken Truck".

I laughed and laughed about "Cluck Cluck Chicken Truck" for about two days. I would try to work it into conversations like:

Dood: It's a shame about all the people killed in tsunami's. The Indian Ocean really needs some kind of tsunami warning system.

Me: Yeah, it's really tragic. You know the old saying, though.

Dood: No, what saying?

Me: "Cluck Cluck, Chicken Truck".

I didn't really understand what "Cluck Cluck Chicken Truck" meant. I only knew that it was on Dwight Diller's hat and that it was hilarious. The beauty of it was that I could use it for anything. Street slang, ancient proverbs, everything became "cluck cluck, chicken truck".

I was sitting on the couch thinking about it. I was thinking about Dwight Diller in his buttoned down shirt and beard and trucker hat. A hat that says "Cluck Cluck Chicken Truck" is pretty silly, but at least it's honest. Emo boys wearing girl pants is pretty silly, and it's not honest at all. Straight Edge kids with X's on their hands is pretty silly, and it's not honest at all.

I googled up "Cluck Cluck, Chicken Truck" and I found out what it really is. "Chicken Truck" is a trucking term for a big, fast car with lots of chrome and lights, and "cluck cluck, chicken truck" is a trucker greeting to someone driving a chicken truck.

So to all you people dressing funny to conform to a subculture, cluck cluck, chicken truck.
