Papa slaved in the Network mines for 8, 9, sometimes 12 hours a day for 40k a year. Mama put rat poision in his chili after she saw it on "Cold Case Files" or "American Justice" or one of those shows. I watched her do it, too young to know what was going on. She was mumbling about how he should cook his own dinner once in awhile. She put in too much and he puked all over the floor in the bathroom. She had to clean it up.

Papa could crack his hands just by clenching his fists. He used to do it to freak out my friends. He developed a cough and the doctors said it was the grey lung. He always said "That computer dust, there's nothing like it in the world. So thick, it hangs in the air for hours after you blast it out with the compressed air". Little did he know... But he kept on going to work, trying to take on more leadership responsibilities so he could get that 2 or 3k raise. We all knew he was working himself to death.

One day he sat me down and said "Son, don't grow up to be like me." Two weeks later a shelf collapsed and he was crushed to death under a half-ton of old monitors.

RIP, old man.
