At work we are witnessing a turn-over. The new breed of java superstars are coming in and the old are wandering off to the Lebrea Tar Pits or consulting firms. What will happen to them? Will they be back?

I set up most of their accounts and they're leaving. 4 and a half years. I'm all settled in here. I'm settled in at my desk listening to "Shit from an old notebook" and trying to get my mind in order.

My wife and baby are heading home from Texas right now. I wonder what state their in, or if they know how much I miss them. HD has a tooth now. I wonder if he'll be all smiles when he sees me like he is sometimes. I saw a couple with a brand new newborn at the grocery store last night and I felt like telling them how great that baby is and how it stops being so scary pretty quickly. They probably already know that.

We laid a tile floor last weekend while they were gone. It came out pretty well. I cut a little off the door myself with some advice from my dad. It came out really well and gave me an unfounded and disproportionate amount of pride. "Look at the fuckin' door!" I kept saying to myself while I opened it and closed it. "Just look at that fuckin' door swing". I called people and made them listen to it glide shut without scraping across the floor.

I strongly recommend you find the Doc Boggs album "His Folkway Years". It's banjo music, but not like you'd expect. It's like southern blues folk banjo. It'll either blow your mind or you'll hate it. Keep in mind that Doc Boggs worked in a coal mine for 40 years. He's the real deal. No one will ever look at anything I've done and say "damn, that guy is the real deal!". Maybe that would've bothered me at one time.
